The event attracted up to 70 Years 11’s and Year 12’s from schools in the borough attending, enabling them to think about their careers. Five employers involved in the event have been part of Youth Skills & Employment Guarantee (YSEG) Opportunities Alliance who are committed to tackling the effects of youth unemployment in the borough. Employers involved on the day included:
- Brentford Football Club
- Brentford FC Community Sports Trust
- Sky
- Marriott Hotels
- London Borough of Hounslow
During employer presentations, students engaged well with the employers and career advisors through activities, conversations and were able to leave with plenty of employer-branded merchandise, including mocktails from Marriott and Employer Top Trumps from Sky.
When asked about what they thought worked well, students said:
"Presenters were lovely, well-spoken and open to any questions-especially Sky. The people at Brentford were very polite as well."
One of our key aims was to demystify some common misconceptions around finding ‘the one’ career and when asked about their key takeaways, students said:
"A career path isn’t a linear line and can go all over the place…"
“Perseverance is important, and it is okay to have many experiences."
Overall, the event was a great success and served as a great opportunity to trial a new way of working by the Council with specific focus on collaborating with local YSEG employers.
