Breaking career barriers for women

It was a busy morning with 160 residents in attendance. Participants were eager to engage with over 20 employers and organisations to learn about live opportunities and how employers can support their needs, such as offering flexible working hours.

AAXAcademy, a training provider in the beauty sector based in Feltham, is offering various training and apprenticeship opportunities in hairdressing, beauty, nails and barbering courses for individuals aged 16 to 18 and those over 18.

One of the employers, Heathrow Animal Reception Centre, is offering vacancies such as casual work, animal attendant roles with shifts. They also have apprenticeship roles in admin and plan to introduce a new apprenticeship programme for animal attendants in 2025. These roles are open to people for all ages.

Belina Grow CIC, an organisation that supports women returning to work or seeking upskilling and training courses, was also present. Saeema Yusuf, senior employment advisor at Belina GRoW, highlighted several career development barriers for women.

The Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy has identified women as one of the community groups needing additional support to access services and opportunities.
