Training course and skills bootcamp

This Green Skills Bootcamp is a FREE 4-week part-time course that enables learners to gain entry level roles as a Grounds Maintenance Operative. Funded through the Mayor of London’s Skills Bootcamp for Londoners programme, the training includes two weeks of classroom theory learning, one week of hands-on work experience with a local employer and one week of employability training to help get you job ready.

Attendees that successfully complete the Bootcamp course will be offered a guaranteed interview with employers who are looking to hire new talent.

Candidates applying will be asked to complete a numeracy and literacy test. To be eligible, applicants must be a Hounslow resident, aged 19 or above, and either unemployed or in receipt of means-tested benefits. Residents interested in this opportunity should note that the work will be outdoors, grounds maintenance roles are usually full-time and having a driving licence is desirable.

Date: The 4-week course will run Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm between Monday, 24 February 2025 to Friday, 21 March 2025. Participants should also be available for in-person interviews on 24 and 25 March 2025.

Locations: Meadowbank Adult Education and Community Learning Centre (Community Close, Cranford, TW5 9QX) and at employer’s work sites for work experience week.

The London Borough of Hounslow has created this course in partnership with the Greater London Authority, Lampton Green Space 360, Hounslow Highways, and Maydencroft.

If you love bikes and working with your hands, becoming a bike mechanic may be the perfect career for you.

The Council is looking to recruit 12 people to train as bike mechanics at City and Guilds Level 2. Training is fully funded by the Council.

The programme, delivered by Bikeworks, is for women of all ages and young people (aged 16 to 25) who live in Hounslow and are interested in a cycling career and want to take the next step by training to be a cycle mechanic.

Participants will receive hands-on training, a City and Guilds Level 2 qualification, and a toolkit to kick-start their career on successful completion of the course. Applicants need to be willing to commit to a 10-day programme in February or March 2025, from 9am to 5pm, and travel to the Bikeworks West Training Hub in Notting Hill (W10 6NQ).
