Description

If you love bikes and working with your hands, becoming a bike mechanic may be the perfect career for you.  

The Council is looking to recruit 12 people to train as bike mechanics at City and Guilds Level 2. Training is fully funded by the Council.

The programme, delivered by Bikeworks, is for women of all ages and men aged 16 to 25 who live in Hounslow and are interested in a cycling career and want to take the next step by training to be a cycle mechanic.

This is not just a course, it's a self-employed/freelance opportunity and guaranteed interview with employers after completing the course.



Duties






Essential criteria

  1. Must be a resident of Hounslow
  2. We are specifically looking to recruit women of all ages and men aged 16-25
  3. Must be able to commit to attending all sessions of the 10-day course, from 9am to 5pm.
  4. You will need to attend a literacy and numeracy skills assessment at Hounslow House.
  5. Must be willing to travel to the Bikeworks West Training Hub in Notting Hill, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (3 Maxilla Walk, London W10 6NQ).
  6. Should be eager to pursue a career as a full-time mechanic or consider it as a potential career path.
  7. Should have basic knowledge of bikes and be willing to enhance their skills for a full-time career or be passionate about upskilling and transitioning to a mechanic career.
  8. Must be able to attend all the dates below:
  • April 5th & 6th
  • April 12th & 13th
  • April 19th & 20th
  • April 26th & 27th
  • May 3rd & 4th



Required qualifications

This is a self-employed/freelance opportunity.  

Participants will receive hands-on training, a City and Guilds Level 2 qualification, and a toolkit to kick-start their career on successful completion of the course.

Applicants need to be willing to commit to a 10-day programme in April 2025 from 09:00am-17:00hrs and travel to the Bikeworks West Training Hub in Notting Hill (W10 6NQ).


Additional information

DBS check will be done once enrolled onto the course (cost will be covered by LBH)

It is mandatory to attend a one-day introduction course on 15th March before the bike mechanic course starts.
