Description

You will be part of an organisation that looks after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world and their magnificent historical gardens.

The Heritage Science Laboratory Technician works within the Conservation & Collection Care, and Collections Management (CCC CM) team, providing support in technical investigations using a range of analytical equipment to inform the study and conservation of the collections and historic interiors this organisation looks after.

This role also supports the maintenance of equipment and chemical supplies, to ensure the smooth running of the team while working safely in the Science Laboratory and following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems.

You will proactively communicate the importance of conservation and heritage science work to both generalist and specialist audiences.

Duties

Duties include (but are not limited to) the following:


  • Work safely in in the Science Laboratory maintaining excellent housekeeping whilst following appropriate safety, environment and risk management systems
  • Use of specified instrumentation and laboratory equipment
  • Produce reliable, accurate data and keep accurate records of laboratory work undertaken and results
  • Assist in maintaining Health and Safety related documentation
  • Assist in maintaining and organising chemical supplies
  • Receive training where and when appropriate, attend relevant lectures, seminars and exhibitions
  • Be willing to work off site, in public view and at heights when required
  • Be an ambassador for conservation, communicating in a friendly and professional way directly with visitors, colleagues and other audiences.

Essential criteria

  • You must be 18 years old or over on 2nd September 2025.
  • Live in UK (resident in country role is based). 
  • You must not have completed a degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or elsewhere and not already be in full-time education. 
  • Five GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English, science/engineering and mathematics (or equivalent)
