Description

Cooking classes will be delivered to Asylum Seekers and Diabetes Health and Wellness Coaching patients. The aim of the classes is to improve participants’ cooking skills, physical and mental wellbeing. Through this opportunity you will be able to support individuals from a vulnerable community, or with existing long-term conditions to build sustainable food practices.

Volunteers who are compassionate, patient and considerate are well suited for this role.

Date(s): Tuesday 17th June and/or Tuesday 22nd July 2025

Address: University of West London, St Mary’s Road, W5 5RF

Timings: 15:00 to 19:00

Volunteers: up to 5 volunteers per shift

Duties

As a volunteer you will provide support with:

  • Recipe development for culturally competent, healthy and sustainable food
  • Supporting attendees with culinary skills and confidence preparing healthy meals
  • Bring your knowledge of cultural foods to improve the service relevance to the community
  • If you speak another language you can look to offer translation support to participants whose first language is not English

Additional information

The classes are led by professors in food and nutrition science from the University. We welcome a fun and interactive approach to engaging with participants! A briefing on the importance of sensitivity, health and safety will be provided on the day just before starting your shift.
