The Green Skills Bootcamp is a free 4-week course, funded through the Mayor of London Skills Bootcamp programme and in partnership with the Greater London Authority, Lampton GreenSpace 360, Hounslow Highways, and Maydencroft. The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to gain employment in a ground maintenance related role.  


The structure of the course is as follows:

-          Two weeks of classroom lessons

-          One week of hands-on work experience

-          One week of employability training  

Following successful completion of the course, learners will be offered a guaranteed interview with at least one of our partner employers.

The course will start on Monday 16th September 2024 and will last for 4 weeks. It will be delivered at London Borough of Hounslow’s Adult Education classrooms and run from Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm.


You are eligible for the Bootcamp if you are:

-          A Hounslow resident

-          19 years or over

-          Currently unemployed or in receipt of means-tested benefits.


Please note, as part of the course induction you will be screened for:

-          Numeracy Entry Level 2

-          Literacy Entry Level 3


Grounds maintenance refers to jobs that involve preserving, restoring and managing our natural environments and trees across parks, open spaces and along highways. Tasks can include: 


-       Trimming shrubs, hedges and trees 

-       Grass mowing, trimming and leaf blowing 

-       Planting, watering and maintenance of annual flower bedding 

-       Maintaining fences and paths  

-       Litter and refuse clearance 

-       Tree planting and management  

-       Operating tools, equipment and machinery 

-       Driving of company vehicles 


Grounds maintenance offers a wide array of career opportunities, all of which allow you to work outdoors and in a wide variety of locations. Employers in the industry include local authorities as well as private contractors.

The course content may include:

-          The benefits of working in the green sector

-          An insight into the green sector

-          Biosecurity awareness

-          Invasive non-native species (INNS)

-          Ecology awareness

-          OPM awareness

-          Introduction to tree surveying 

-          Tree planting and aftercare

-          Water safe working

-          Safety briefing


Support available:

-          Free Travel: we will provide you with a free London travelcard (London Zones 2-6) to travel to and from the classroom and work experience locations.

-          Free Childcare: we will cover the cost of any childcare needed during the course hours.

-          Personalised 1:1 Support: we will offer you advice and guidance throughout the course.  



Industry preferences for Land Management roles include:

-          Driving licence (preferred).

-          Working full time.

-          Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
